PREPARE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

PREPARE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

As we approach the holidays it is important that each of us works to achieve a balance of activities so that we are not overpowered or overwhelmed by the season.

1. Do whatever shopping has to be done as early as possible.

2. Honor your feelings---cry, laugh, be angry, be alone. Whatever you feel is okay.

3. Take the time to rest well and eat well.

4. Spend time with people who understand and allow you to speak about holidays past if you need to do so.

5. Accept the way life is now.

6. Create new traditions for yourself and your family.

7. Buy yourself a Christmas present….something you want – not something you need.

8. Be gentle with yourself—don’t expect too much of yourself; be realistic.

9. Keep reminding yourself of your goodness and God’s love for you.

10. Set realistic goals that balance work, family and leisure.

11. Recognize your own limits of energy and time. Stop before you run out of steam.

12. Organize your time so that you can feel some control.

13. Learn to enjoy your own company.

14. Listen to your wants rather than your shoulds. Don’t let others “should” on you.

15. Exercise your sense of humor and try to be flexible.

16. Take the responsibility to make it your holiday season; make your own decisions.

17. Don’t force yourself to go to parties or other gatherings.

18. Take time out to discover your inner strength---God’s gift to you.

19. Make good use of the greatest gift given you—the gift of breath. Breathe often and deeply.
