Happy acid reflux, IBS, and indigestion day?
Did he just really say that? I can’t believe he would be wishing me a happy acid reflux day…Well, wish it or not, unfortunately this may be the experience many may have over this thanksgiving weekend.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are some simple steps that can be taken to have a much healthier and enjoyable experience during these holiday season. Here are a few tips and resources that may help.
- Watch your serving size – Really, do some conscious eating, be aware of what and how much you are putting into your system. This will allow for your body to be more effective at digesting with ease.
- CHEW and take your time – Did you know that the digestive process begins before you even put food into your mouth? True, your salivary glands and your mouth begin the digestive process as soon as you even start to think about food. So, take your time, enjoy your food, and CHEW. Want to play a game? See if you can chew your food 50 times each time before you swallow. Personally, I’m still working on it…I get to around 35, but I do notice my tummy appreciates even that much chewing.
- Eat in JOY! - Your emotional state affects your body’s ability to digest its food. Really! Why do you think many health professionals remind you to turn off the news when you are eating. Make the effort to be grateful and joyous for the blessed food you are about to take in, and enjoy it!!! Your tummy will be grateful you did.
- Supplement! – I know that many of us will still over-eat and not follow some of these simple steps I shared with you. If you know this is the case for you here are some supplements that can support the digestive process:
Food Enzymes - Help that belly do the job, especially when I over-indulge myself. But it has also been good for me in between meals.
Proactazyme -Has aided me in the breakdown of most types of food and helped me improve digestion.
Stomach comfort - I use this instead of TUMS or any other antacid.
I trust these tips and resources will help you have a much more enjoyable holiday season without feeling the discomfort of improper digestion. Blessings to you and happy gobble-gobble day!
