How to hire an assistant for less than $5 per hour
As a small business owner and entrepreneur, I have learned that my time is one of my most valuable assets. When this became clear to me, I started to do the things that would open up more time for me. This type of thinking and action is what’s allowed me to have 5 days off and two days of “work” (I quote it because I love what I do, so even those two days don’t feel like work). I enjoy reading books like Tim Farris’ “Four hour work week“. I truly believe that having more time off has made me even more effective.
One of those things that I did different I began to outsource things that would open up my time so that I could focus on more pressing matters. I decided to outsource things like data entry, research, and so forth. Things that would take valuable time and keep me from focusing on those actions that would keep my business growing.
Since outsourcing can be a bit intimidating at first. One easy way to start off is hiring an assistant. At first I didn’t believe that hiring an assistant would be cost effective, and then “where would I find one?”. So here is how I did it…(I trust it will help you)
- First I created a list of items that I could outsource.
- Then I determined whether I should outsource it to technology or to a human being.
(Technology would be like automated email, blogs, etc.) - For the human component, I looked at who around me could do some of the things I needed done and I was able to hand off some stuff to local outsourcing.
- Then I started to look at GAF and Elance, and noticed I could get a personal assistant at very affordable rates.
- So I set up an account with each, posted a project proposal and before I knew it, I had my own personal assistant that was very affordable.
That’s it. Truly, I had made it out to be much more work than it really was. Now I have increased my productivity by 10-fold and have even more free time. By now, if you are still not sure that you could do it, I’d suggest taking a look at Outsourcing Made Easy, and learn what and how to outsource.
If your time is as precious as mine, (which I’m sure it is) then what are you doing to open up more of it? What would you do with more free time?
Successful people have a system to create more wealth, more time, and better health. What is your system? And is it getting you the results you want? If not, I encourage you to do something different.
