Is sugar really that bad for you?
I’m not here to tell you if sugar is good or bad for you. I want you to be able to make that decision for yourself. I no longer think in terms of something being “good” or “bad”, I simply take a look at the actions I’m taking and the results they are getting me. If the result is the one I want, great, I keep going. If it is not, then I get to do something different.
I share this with you because my commitment is to support you in YOU inspiring, educating, and empowering yourself to make educated decisions on what is going to support your health best. Today’s topic happens to be on Sugar.
Here is the beginning of a list of many effects sugar can have on the body. I’ve only listed the first few, because I primarily want to share with you some healther alternative (and by no means do I mean those sugar substitutes such as Nutra-sweet or similar…that’s a whole other topic).
Here are some of main points that caught my attention from a recent article I read on Dr. Mercola’s site:
- Sugar can suppress your immune system and impair your defenses against infectious disease.
- Sugar can produce a significant rise in total cholesterol, triglycerides and bad cholesterol and a decrease in good cholesterol.
- Sugar feeds cancer cells and has been connected with the development of cancer of the breast, ovaries, prostate, rectum, pancreas, biliary tract, lung, gallbladder and stomach.
- Sugar can weaken eyesight.Sugar can increase your systolic blood pressure.
- I can keep going…see the list and research resources for yourself.
As I mentioned, my desire is to share resources to support your decision making in the area of health. Thus, here are a few items that have helped me cut down and pretty much eliminate many of the sugar cravings I used to have. There are many more resources, but I want to keep this process simple.
- Stevia - I use stevia instead of sugar. I particularly enjoy two brands one is by NSP and the other one by KAL. One tiny bit of stevia in water with chlorophyll, and that makes a very yummy health drink that cuts my sugar cravings.
- SugarReg or Ayurvedic Blood Sugar Formula - Both support normal-range blood sugar levels.
- Xylitol - My system does very well with xylitol products. So instead of chewing regular spearment gum, I choose xylitol gum. I’ve also used chocolate with xylitol, which has been very yummy. I am partial to dark chocolate.
I trust these resources will support you in taking your health to the next level.
