Just recently day I went hiking with my beautiful wife, and one of my success coaches (my 2 year old son). We hiked at a preserve close bye.

As we were walking a simple series of event happened, and I never imagined they would deliver a powerful message for success. It was so simple, and yet so powerful. Allow me to share it with you.

As we were hiking on the trail where horses often travel we came across some “horse poopie”. At that moment we instructed our son not to step on horse poopie. From that moment on he started to notice all the horse poopie and avoided it throughout the rest of the hike. The cutest part was that you’d hear him say, “DON’T STEP ON HORSE POOPIE”. After hearing it a few times I came to my simple realization….

A powerful system for creating success is doing what works, and let go of what doesn’t. I told you it was a simple concept. But the powerful message for me was that this is exactly what I’ve done to create any of my successes. I’ve received support for gaining clarity of what I want my outcome to be. I’ve found someone who’s already done it efectively, and I learned from them. Then I implemented it, repeated what worked and let go of what didn’t. Then I repeate the process over and over, improving on the previous experience each time. That’s it. I don’t need to complicate matters any.

Here are a few questions I often ask myself whenever I am looking meet a goal/outcome. I trust they will serve you in creating your own success:

• What do I want?
• Who has done it (or something similar)?
• Am I open to learning from them?
• What are they doing to get that outcome?
• What am I committed to act on right now?

This is a good time to emphasize the importance of that last question. I believe this is probably the most important ingredient of all. Imply because without action nothing happens. If my so does not step aside, then he steps on horse poopie. How many times have we stepped on horse poopie? Are you done stepping on the horse poopies of life? If so, take the questions I shared above and use them to do something different.
