Does Dr. Mercola’s no grain diet work?

no grain Does Dr. Mercolas no grain diet work?As many of you know, I’m constantly testing out ways to support my health, energy, and vitality, knowing that my health directly affects the success in other areas of my life. So, now I’m testing Dr. Mercola’s no grain program. I don’t like to call it diet for numerous reasons, the primary reason is that I am committed to adopting healthy lifestyle habits, not just a quick fix. Therefore, I experience a program and once I see what works for me, I’ll incorporate it into my lifestyle. I trust this last statement is something you will consider for yourself. Especially considering how many quick fixes, silver bullets, and fad diets are out there, and how they attempt to make a single program fits all. My focus for this write up is to share with you a review of my experience and trust this will be of service to you and your health.

Some of what interested me the most about Dr. Mercola’s no grain diet program, are the following:

  1. That it is a program for lifestyle changes, not simply a fad diet or supplement.
  2. Its focus on allowing the body to re-program itself as you go throught the program.
  3. It deals with support in numerous areas (the food plan, forums for questions, emotional freedom techniques, and much more)
  4. Finally, that I can customize a program that meets my lifestyle.

There are so many other fads, and generic programs that others have used to lose weight, and/or improve their health. And it is noteworthy to state, that for some these resources do work (ex: Fat Loss For Idiots, Fat Loss Secret,  Resveratrol, Acai Berry, etc), but to create a sustainable result, then lifestyle changes is what’s stood the test of time. One of the things I like about Dr. Mercola’s No-grain diet is the simple and foundational premises of this program. These are stated in his book:

  1. Carbohydrate production stimulates insulin release, causing storage of carbs as fat.
  2. High insulin levels supress glucagon (which is the hormone that promotes the burning of fat and sugar), and the human growth hormone (which is responsible for muscle development and new muscle mass).
  3. High insulin levels cause hunger.

These reminders made a lot of sense to me and thus prompted me into testing this program further. Thought results will continue over time and my committment to testing this program, I’ve already started to notice some significant changes in my energy levels. At the time of this posting, I’ve been on this program less than a week and I’m already feeling more energy and a greater level of clarity. Plus, I’ve had very little to no cravings as I’ve had in the past when I included more grains in my food regimen. I believe that I’ll see more results as time goes bye and I continue with this program, and I’ll share the results with you.

Remember I mentioned the flexibility of this program. Well, it certainly has been nice to be able to include some of my regular recipes like my quick and healthy morning drink, and being able to include some of my daily supplements. It has also been encouraging to see testimonials of others, such as the one below, that serve as an inspiration to succeed in gaining better health.

“After years spent struggling with my weight and high cholesterol I was sent to see a heart specialist because my cholesterol had risen to over 300. He put me on 20 mg of Pravachol and my cholesterol dropped to 195 but then he took me off the hormone I was taking because of the new research and my age. After this my cholesterol went up to 245 and my doctor doubled my Pravachol to 40 mg. “See you in the spring,” was his comment when I left his office.

A few months later, I developed a leg cramp while exercising that was so severe I could hardly walk; it was like I had been shot in the back of the leg. A week later my leg swelled up and became black and blue. I went back to the heart specialist and he decided that I had a ruptured Baker’s Cyst from the exercise. I was told to take it easy so I pampered that leg for a month with no relief. Four weeks later I developed a cramp in the other leg and tenderness in my left shoulder. The shoulder was so sore that I could not sleep on it.

It was then that I e-mailed my chiropractor about my problem with the muscles in my leg. I thought maybe I needed a spinal adjustment! His response was the Mercola Web site.

I read with interest the problems with cholesterol lowering drugs–the side effects were exactly what I had been experiencing. I made an appointment with my regular doctor for blood work. My cholesterol was 245, HDL was 77, the LDL was 144, and triglycerides were 116. I mentioned the leg cramps to the nurse and she said it could be the Pravachol, but then gave me two sample boxes to tide me over until the results of my blood work came in.

I went home and looked at the information from the Web site again, threw away the medicine and began eating according to Dr. Mercola’s Web site. My leg cramps disappeared after two days off the medicine. At a doctor’s visit two weeks later, I had lost 6 pounds in 10 days and my triglycerides were 74 (down from 116 two weeks earlier).

It has been 25 days since I started the no-sugar, no-grain diet, and I have lost a total of seven pounds and feel great. The diet is not hard, and I AM NOT HUNGRY BETWEEN MEALS. Before I started Dr. Mercola’s plan, I would eat cereal for breakfast and be starving in an hour. I used to hunt for a candy dish every day where I work.

I know I can live on this plan. I feel 10 years younger and would recommend this plan to anyone who needs to feel better. I have already recommended the Web site to many of my coworkers because they ask me what I have been doing to lose weight and look great! I realize now that the grains I was eating while on my previous diet were playing havoc with my insulin levels. Diabetes and heart disease run in my family, and this new way of eating is what I needed and have needed for years!” — This is the story of Barb, submitted by Dr. Harrington of Brooklyn, IA

There are many resources available for this program, and many are easily available with a simple Google search of Dr. Mercola’s No-Grain Diet.

I trust this information will support you in attaining your desired healthy lifestyle changes and it brings you lots of joy and loving energy.
