Yeast Infection Home Remedies

Yeast-Infection-Home-Remedies

Before we get into yeast infection home remedies, lets take a quick look at some of the major culprits that can be contributing factors for yeast infections. This may help get a better sense of how to approach your home remedy. Remember, all that is stated here is not intended to cure, diagnose or treat anything. It is merely educational, please be responsible and consult with you doctor or medical professional as you create your healing approach.

Bacterial vaginosis (gardnerella) – This can have symptoms and characteristics of a thin, grey or green discharge and it some cases it could be white. The smell tends to be foul and fishy, and can be quite itchy. This infection can spread to the uterus and fallopian tubes.

Vulvitis- Simply means the inflamation of the vulva. This could be brought upon by an allergic reaction, bacterial or fungal infection, or even an irritation. The symptoms can include itching, redness, swelling, with fluid filled blisters.

Trichomonas – This particular type of yeast infection can be caused by a parasite and isn’t picky about gender, it can affect men and women alike. It is usually contracted through sexual intercourse and can be passed back and forth. It tends to create a yellow-ish discharge with a foul odor and a burning itch. Frequent, burning urination is also a symptom.

Leukorrhea – This one is a true yeast type of infection. Symptoms tend to be itchy, irritated inflammation of the vaginal area. The discharge is foul smelling and cottage cheese like. Sex can be quite painful.

Candida Albicans – Vaginal yeast infections can also be caused by the overgrowth of Candida albicans, this fungus normally lives in our body, however, when there is an overgrowth of candida albicans, then problems begin.

Some more situations that can add to the posibility of yeast overgrowth and yeast infections include:

  • Antibiotics-They tend to kill all bacteria including the good bacteria, thus allowing yeast overgrowth and infection
  • A weakened immune system can’t fight the infection after being exposed to it
  • When there are Hormone imbalances the body tends to be more apt to be affected. Hormone imbalances can often be affected by some birth control pills, which may also affect the pH levels of the body. (Click here to see how you can bring your pH back into balance)
  • Spermicidal creams are known to kill the good bacteria that protect the vagina
  • Acid-Alkaline (pH) imbalances affect the entire body’s ability to heal and protect itself

Now that you have a bit more of an understanding of some of the main culprits of yeast infections, lets take a look at some alternative yeast infection treatments you may consider.

Here are some steps to help you empower your own healing:

  1. Eat (Organic) Unsweetened Yogurt – Getting the kind with the least amount of additives and perservatives would be best. Yogurt contains helpful bacteria (an alternative and add on is to take a good quality probiotic, ideally on an empty stomach) . Yogurt also tends to work well when when applied topically. An option is to insert some into the vagina using a finger or plastic tampon applicator. Recommended to only use plain yogurt with active cultures.
  2. Eliminate or at least diminish as much as possible the intake of sugar, sweets, fruits, refined carbs, and sugary foods.
  3. Eliminate taking in alcohol, mushrooms, yeast containing foods, and fermented products. This will help by not adding more fungi into your system.
  4. Make your own douche. There are various alternatives you’ll find out there. Here are some to potentially consider:a. Combine equal amounts of sage, raspberry and comfrey with 1/4 part goldenseal. This can be combined with apple cider vinegar. Douche twice daily for a week. Don’t use plain white vinegar.b. Or douche with a solution of 1 to 3 tbsp. apple-cider vinegar in a quart of water. Repeat once a day while having symptoms, but no longer than a week.c. Or use garlic juice and acidophilus as a douche. Mix two capsules of garlic or fresh garlic juice with a quart of warm water and use as a douche. Alternate with an acidophilus douche made by mixing two capsules of acidophilus in a quart of warm water.

    d. Or cider vinegar and water douches will normalize the vaginal pH, mix 2 TBS to 1 qt. water.

  5. Another resource that you’ll find quite often is the use of garlic as a suppository, and here are some options on how to use them:a. Garlic contains a natural anti-fungal agent. Peel a fresh clove, wrap it in gauze and insert it into the vagina.b. Or Peel a garlic clove, wrap it in sterile gauze, lubricate it with vegetable oil and insert it into the vagina. Leave a piece of the gauze sticking out so you can locate it easily. Change the suppository every 12 hours.
  6. I need to preface this one a little bit with an warning. Tea tree oil may irritate tissue, thus, test this with small amounts before using the following information, also make sure it is a therapeutic grade essential oil (Young Living is a company that produces such quality, press here on how to order from them). Apply a tea-tree-oil cream to irritated and inflamed areas. It tends to work quite well against fungal infections, herpes blisters and other types of infection.
  7. To help your body fight the infection here are some more tools:a. Colloidal Silver – Excellent resource for fighting off the infections. Note there are Colloidal Silver Gels and Colloidal Siver Liquid, either or both would be appropriate.b. Pau D’Arco – This is a great fungus and yeast fighter. Again, this one has the option of Pau D’ Arco Lotion, or supplement for internal use, or even tea.c. Zinc – help the body fight off infection and helps increase recovery time.

    d. Cranberry Supplements and/or unsweetened organic cranberry juice.

    e. Oregano extract is considered to be a very potent fighter against candida.

    f. Vitamin C – Of course keeping your immune system supported.

  8. Bathe with vinegar to relieve symptoms. Fill the tub about hip deep with warm water and add 1/2 c. apple cider vinegar. Soak with legs apart until water cools.
  9. Finally, doing a Yeast/Fungal Detox would be something to consider.
